In Progress! We’re taking advantage of the COVID-19 shutdown to tear apart the lobby and re-do it.
Tile is complete. Re-painting is in progress. Some trim and fixtures to complete still.
3. Remove coat closets and expand restroom stalls for better handicapped accesibility.
In Progress! Demolition, framing, plumbing and sheetrock completed. Added exhaust vents in both restrooms. We had to re-route some plumbing to make the new layout work. Big thanks to Gareth and Troy for their assistance!
4. Pressure wash entire roof; Add elastomeric to flat roof.
In Progress! Flat roof is 98% done. Baby Dome pressure washed, some of big Dome pressure washed.
5) Re-coat main Dome roof with a fresh coat of elastomeric. (approx $2000 for materials)
More to do:
- Re-paint the lobby walls, ceiling, and woodwork. In Progress!
- Reinstall toilets and urinal. 3/5 complete
- Repair/replace stained and failing imitation stucco on portico & lobby/restroom exterior walls

The Radiance Foundation Board, being charged with upkeep and improvements of the Dome (among other tasks), has long-term plans for the symbolic center of our community. A current snapshot of projects which are underway or in the planning/financing stages include:
- Replace all faucets in men’s and ladies’ rooms. (done)
- Replace non-functioning toilet in ladies’ room. (done/ongoing)
- Replace all toilet flapper valves and feed valves. (done/ongoing)
- Urinal wall seal was leaking. (Fixed.)
- Add path and parking lot lighting (commercial grade xmas lights). (done/ongoing)
- Wash roof; touch up paint as needed. (due every 3-5 years)
- Men’s restroom repaint. (done 2013)
- New curtains all around. (done)
- Repaired north parapet wall. During the 2013 roof washing we discovered there were some portions of the north parapet wall which were beginning to deteriorate. Removed a section of the parapet, added vented Hardie soffit, and replaced the removed section with angled flashing.
- Wallpaper removed near entry from lobby to main dome. Replaced with paint. (done, 2020)
- Added exhaust vents in both restrooms (done, 2020)
In planning, financing, or implementation stages:
- Facia board: inspect and repaint- all around
- Windows: screens replaced – all around
- Stucco and stone veneer: caulk and fill voids (some done)
- Replace all windows with high quality, energy efficient models
- current cost estimate: $20,000 for the 18 arched windows, installed
- it may be possible to improve our energy efficiency at lower cost ($450 per window x 18 = ~$8000) by installing storm windows. We’ll still have the funky old disfunctional windows we have now, but we won’t be leaking A/C and heat to the outside world as much. The energy savings should allow us to put more money into the building elsewhere.
- modifications to the stonework and stucco to correct drainage and other problems: cost unknown
- Access for handicapped. Currently the only wheelchair access we have is through the back doors, which is not ideal. We’re considering adding a ramp from the existing sidewalk to a door which will replace the window in front of the ladies’ restroom.
- Reconfigure after COVID-19 inspired lobby reconstruction
- Sound deadening material researched and tested
- Remove old office dividers (done, 2020), replace with removable dividers (wheeled coat racks with curtain).
- Ceiling cracks: filled and repainted (done, 2020)
- Wall paper removal, repaint to match (done, 2020)
- Window sills both sides – sand & repaint, including restrooms.
- Repaint any wood surfaces that are showing peeling and cracking of paint. (Men’s room done 2013!)
- Re-hang shutters in ladies’ restroom. (done)
- Doors: Door handle escutcheon needs to be replaced and door edge planed or sanded to eliminate a long term sticking. Doors also could use a fresh coat of paint.
- Closets: cleaned and dry wall replaced in the one on the Men’s side from our mildew repair efforts of a couple of years ago.
- Window sills all around-paint touch up.
- Dome ceiling (all the beams above) dusted. 30 years of accumulated dust?
- “Back door” check/replace weatherstripping. (in progress)
Many of these projects will be completed in the next few months; others may not even start for a number of years due to financial considerations. Radiance Foundation depends upon donations of both time and money from the community (both from Radiance itself and from our family of friends and supporters) and various fundraising activities such as our concert series. We encourage you to participate in whatever way you can.
